Lange To Return To American Horror Story

The return of American Horror Story has been long over due! And we have not been disappointed, with a raunchy sex scene between Matt Bomer and Lady Gaga, a months supply of halloween blood and some of the creepiest scenes allowed on tv-  infulenced by Steven Kings work no doubt!

But one thing that is missing is Jessica Lange. The woman who has been the soul of the decided to leave the show having given it four years and four remarkable characters. Lange was a huge loss to AHS but now we may rejoice because Lange is set to return.

Ryan Murphy the series' producer stated in an interview for EW "It’s always possible. I’m trying to deal with her play schedule. Jessica is always about the character. She’ll be back—she’s not gone forever"

Speculation still arounds what character she may play or when she may arrive but Murphy has told us that she's back and were ecstatic! Lange is set to return for an unspecified time in this years version of AHS: Hotel alongside AHS veteran Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters.

Not gone forever is good enough for us right?! So what do you think? What type of character will Lange play not that she's not part of the credited cast? Will she star as a a new character passing through the hotel? Or will Murphy blend the worlds of past season and show us Elsa Mars or The Supreme having a night away in Los Angeles- anything is possible! Either way I'm sure she will make one hell of an impact!

BBC Explore if Video Games are Actually Bad in New Documentary

This year the PlayStation marks its 20th anniversary meaning that those of us, like myself, born in Generation X (1990's-2000- the children born from the adult baby boomers) have been exposed to video games in someway for all of their lives. Because of this interest has snowballed into the effects of video gaming on gamers, now becoming one of the most controversial topics in psychology.

Many researchers in psychology and communication studies believe that video gaming and playing specific games makes a person aggressive, whereas other researchers have found that game playing can sharpen the mind and have a positive impact on cognition.

As it is now a social norm to have at least one gaming console in a household it is understandable why the area is so heavily researched- as it effects almost every household in the UK and USA. Because of this the BBC have created a documentary showcasing the debate and the research on both sides of the fence, research suggesting gaming causes aggression and research suggesting gaming causes prosocial behaviours and is cognitively beneficial to humans.

Check it out on BBC Iplayer (link below) and let me know what you guys think. Which side of the fence do you sit on? Are there particular games you deem 'better' or 'worse' for people? For yourselves or for your children?

Black Swan

Once Upon A Time came back to our screens in the usual OUAT style this week, of course, *spoiler* ending with our beloved group of Heroes and Villains being transported to an enchanted land- this time Camelot and returning without a single memory of the events that took place after their arrival. It is revealed that they have been gone six weeks. I don't think the viewers were shocked at this. But what was shocking was the cold Dark One we saw at the end of the episode.

Will Bonnie go Bad or Bad-Ass?

Throughout the six seasons of The Vampire Diaries we have seen a lot of our beloved characters go through some really terrible traumatic events, but of all the victims in Mystic Falls Bonnie Bennett had to be the most afflicted. Somehow, Bonnie always seems to be coming of the worst and it usually ends in her death... Again.

From offering as a bargaining chip for another life, to having it took from her by the laws of the universe, Bonnie Bennet's stream of bad luck didn't end there. At the end of season five we thought we were saying a tearful goodbye to the witch as she was claimed by an over powering light. But oh no. Bonnie, actually die? No, of course not. Instead she was subject to torture and became the play thing of a psychopathic witchy-wanna be from the Gemini coven. Although born a witch Kai the psycho guy, could not wield his own magic and had to harvest magic from another source- and who else was better than good old Bonnie.

Hoever more recently we seen her return to Mystic Falls, and good old loving Bonnie just doesn't seem the same. And her calm collective personality has been shown to crack! The psychological scars of her time in the 1994 prison world has shown to have caused serious damage to her. Bonnie was always known for her moral attitudes, actions and beliefs and as much as I hate to admit often a little bit of a martyr. But that isn't the case anymore. As we seen recently Bonnie stabbed Kai Parker, her tormenter and torturer, several times and left him to bleed out in 1904 and second prison world created by the Gemini Coven. Although many may believe that Kai deserved this betrayal, we recently seen him gain human empathy and emotions and actually seek out penance for his actions prior to absorbing elements of Luke's personality- again I do not want to talk about that, I wasn't okay with how that went down...

Wit Kai trying always for forgiveness since gaining these emotions Bonnie was not phased by this change in him and sought only revenge. She could not give him her forgiveness and left him to die in 1904. Little does Bonnie know that Kai found his way to the vampiric family of Lily Salvatore left behind in the 1904 prison world, whom we have just found are VAMPIRE WITCHES.

Like Kai, unable to use magic without a source, now as vampires they have an unlimited source of power by channeling themselves. And as we last saw Kai was being, for lack of a better word, 'eaten' by them. I'm presuming, as the seasons almost big bad, that Kai will become vampiric and seek revenge on the morally ambiguous Bonnie Bennet. But hey, if not, she's still going to have to deal with a group of super-vampires.

Having seen this darker part of Bonnie it is possible that if her psychologic issues are not established and treat her mental state may decline and her actions may cascade from this point on. And using stabbing someone to death as a starting point, it could get pretty nasty, pretty quickly. Leaving Kai showed us the moral battle raging within Bonnie and that ultimately the darker part of her psyche won. Seasons ago we seen bonnie using dark magic and slowly becoming a dark character- could this be coming full circle?

Putting herself at ease believing that Kai is forever imprisoned in the 1904 prison world Bonnie has murdered a potentially innocent being- now that Kai has emotions he may not have done such actions if he had them to begin with. However now Bonnie will either become a one track mind in regards to what is right and what is wrong or snowball into a revenge seeking Uber-Witch. With the season focusing on just how psychologically tormenting her experience has been I firmly believe that Bonnie Bennet will no longer be the girl we've known and loved for six seasons but a violent and powerful being fuelled from her pain.

I just hope she gets through it.

But if Kai does come back, or at least when the outcasts of the Gemini coven do, I think this new Bonnie could defiantly give them a run for their money. I suppose we will just have to wait and find out!

Star Trek: Into Date Night

Only a few days ago British Netflix honoured us with Star Trek: Into Darkness. Uploading the incredible sequel to Star Trek (2009), giving a different interpretation to the well know story of 'The Wrath of Khan', a superior war criminal with dangerous strength and intellect, striking fear into the hearts of all those involved in Star Fleet's operations. Those who boldly go where none has gone before.

With this in mind I decide to have a date night with my boyfriend Nick, to celebrate Netflix's uploading of Star Trek: Into Darkness. So being all witty, I decided to call this night, Star Trek: Into Date Night!

With candles lit and the oven heating up I followed these five simple steps to making Star Trek: Into Date Night Happen...

Newcastle Comic-Con: The first Great Geek event in the North-East

This weekend saw Comic Con arrive in Newcastle at The Metro Arena with tickets from as little as £8 per day, per adult. The North-East of England is slowly growing it's dominance in terms of Geek Culture, however up until now, event wise, it was pretty poor. Although the city holds two impressive comic/popular culture stores, Forbidden Planet and Travelling Man, this comic-con was the first to really offer something to the popular culture table: And take it from me it was epic!

Fiends, Jedi's, Hero's and villains all made their way to the stadium. I, however, chose to go for a more subtle look, a power ranger, pre-morphed... I thought that was a nice enough little quirk for losing my Comic-Con virginity...

Should MK Go Gay?

Should Mortal Kombat Go Gay? And Should It 'Rain' Men?

The idea of Mortal Kombat embracing homosexuality is a question that I have pondered over and internally debated for years now, and with more and more information being drip fed to use from Ed Boon and the team I thought when is a better time than now to utilise this post and raise the question should MK go Gay?

Mortal Komabat (for those deprived and unfornature ones of you don't know) is a gaming franchise that offers 'beat em' up' arcade style fighting games intertwined with intricate story lines, heritage and lineage. Mortal Kombat is a tournament held once in a generation, in which fighters from every realm participate within the tournament in the hopes of winning. As the losing realm is one step closer to being merged with the savage self-declared Emperor Shoa Khan's realm known as outworld. Ten losses to Shoa Khan and he can invade Earth Realm without any intervention from the  Elder Gods. The franchise begins at the start of the tournament, which, if lost, would be Earth Realm's tenth loss. Allowing Shoa Khan to finally conquer Earth.

Within Mortal Kombat there are no Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual etc. characters found within any of the titles. This day and age most gaming franchises have incorporated elements of same sex relationships however not Mortal Kombat. Is this due to the extremely masculine nature of the game. Or could that open up more questions than answers, when contemplating the idea of men fighting men and the symbolism this carries e.g two men battling with their swords. So perhaps symbolically an academic or gaming novelist may be able to find elements of homosexuality, but nothing obvious to players.

Now within 2014 it is common to find gay relationships, gay characters and other LGBT themes within games. In the 1999 title Final Fantasy VII, there is a minor character at a bar whom, once conversation begins, heavily implies he is transgender. Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds, a game of the same named television show allows leading lesbian characters Willow Rosenberg and Tara Mclay to be fully playable characters within the game. And finally with 2011's award winning game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a player is able to marry an character regardless of gender. So it seems that LGBT themes have slowly worked their way into games throughout the years but in 2014 we see no signs of this within this established franchise.

Throughout the internet interest and request for a gay kombatant has grown as the Mk Universe has. However as MK3 came out, LGBT themes were becoming more and more apparent and fans looked to new characters for this element. Male characters such as Rain and Nightwolf were often believed to be bi-sexual or homosexual, however this beliefs were never confirmed by Ed Boon. Yet we are now awaiting Mortal Kombat X, the tenth title in the series and still we see no LGBT kombatant...

The roots of homosexuality (and homosexual relations between warriors) predates Ancient Greek times. The idea that their armies and forces were superior to others was due to their passions among the warriors. As each warrior would have a fellow warrior battling for their lives, whom they cared very deeply for. Arguably enough to give their own life for the safety of their homosexual counterpart. This strengthened the army as a whole as the need to protect and/or avenge each other would be driving their motivations to defeat the other army.

The Gay Archetype/Kombatant

If we look at the Ancient Greek Epic Poem; The Illiad. The story of the war hero Achilles and the Trojan horse are shown to us through the words of Homer, we are shown themes of a homosexual nature within the relationship between Achilles and Patrocolus. This is where the idea for a possible Mortal Kombat character or at least Archetype came from: Patroclus.

The construct of Patroclus could give gamers and fans a further insight into the history of Ednia, by creating a male lover of the Edenian Prince who betrayed his realm. Patroclus (the name of the doomed Greek hero) is a being of nature, neither Edenian royalty nor the poorest Edenian man, remaining completely impartial and staying away from political disputes in the realm. Finding comfort only in the Forest. Rain, before the destruction of his realm, would visit the woods and seek confidence within Patroclus over time building a strong trusting friendship escalating to a sexual relationship hidden from the world. Rain would often nourish Patroclus' hidden home in the woods with water in order for Patroclus' personal realm to thrive. However, the day eventually came when Rain turned his back on Edenia along with Patrculus, betraying both of them. Offering them both to the Emperor Shoa Khan.

The woods were no longer nourished and attacked by the merge of the realms ultimately withered and died. Patrclus knowing the end was near, cocooned himself within the the main tree of the hidden forest he called home and suspended himself in life as an inanimate dying tree with his land. Until now an unknown force has released the sleeping warrior. Although his alliance is to nature and remains a neutral warrior, the scars of Rain's betrayal now drive his need for revenge. Creating a formidable opponent for both Rain and Shoa Khan.

This is only an idea for a character that incorporates homosexual themes, however a character like this could really give Mortal Kombat that extra element needed to reap a greater audience whilst gaining media coverage for embracing LGBT into the realms. But I suppose themes like this often take time to become part of a franchise, yet were still oping Ed Boon will incorporate homosexul themes into Mortal Kombat. Just as producers of iconic gaming franchises such as Final Fantasy and The Elder Scrolls have done so before him.
